There's no shortage of ways to get around Tunisia: taxis, louages, rental cars… and private drivers. Here is how to choose for your trip.

Taxis: handy for short trips in town

In town, yellow taxis are everywhere and handy for a few kilometres. Check the meter is running, or agree on the fare before you set off. For long distances with luggage it's less comfortable, and the price is up for negotiation.

Louages: cheap, but not made for holidays

Louages, the shared minibuses that link the towns, are very cheap. They leave once full, with no fixed timetable and little room for suitcases: a real local experience, but rarely suited to a family holiday.

Rental cars: freedom… with strings attached

Renting a car gives you freedom, but you have to drive through busy towns, find parking and cover the long roads of the south. And after a day of sightseeing, nobody necessarily wants to get back behind the wheel.

A private driver: your plans, no hassle

With a private driver, you choose the stops and the pace: your driver waits at every stop, knows the roads and the good places, and you enjoy the scenery. Our packages range from a half day (4 hours) to several days, with a vehicle suited to your group and luggage. The price is fixed when you book, fuel, tolls and parking included.

Our advice

  • Just going from the airport to your hotel? Book a fixed-price transfer.
  • Several visits in a day, like El Jem and Kairouan? A private driver or an organised tour saves you precious time.
  • A road trip over several days? The day rate is simplest: the same driver from start to finish.
