At a Glance
You leave the coast early and head south through Matmata and its homes dug into the earth. At Douz, the gateway to the desert, the landscape changes: palm groves give way to the first dunes.
In the late afternoon a 4×4 takes you to Ksar Ghilane, an oasis on the edge of the sea of sand. A camel ride at sunset, dinner and a night in a desert camp, then a dip in the hot spring when you wake up.
